GEORGE WEISCHADLE

FOUNDER

George initially worked at Hughes Aircraft Company, where he was a design contributor to the first domestic satellite telecommunications network in the United States (Westar) and first regional satellite network in Asia (Palapa).

He subsequently founded and managed an electronics product development and manufacturing business in the satellite telecom and public network fields (Sattel Technologies). Sattel was a prime contractor on the Palapa B2-R program that recovered a satellite from orbit using the NASA Space Shuttle, refurbished and re-launched it. Sattel had over $200 million worldwide sales.

As the Founder of Merlin Technologies (“Merlin”), George led a team of engineers that developed the first wide-area indoor/outdoor geo-location system, which significantly surpasses GPS in its capabilities. In particular, Merlin’s technology provides precise indoor tracking (which GPS does not) and cannot be jammed or spoofed (which can be done to GPS). Merlin exploits existing high-power commercial broadcast signals to locate persons and assets globally, both indoors and outdoors, irrespective of terrain and weather.

DR. ANTONIO LEAL

VICE PRESIDENT

Dr. Leal has over 40 years experience in computer science and technology. His PhD, received in 1976 from UCLA, combined disciplines from Artificial Intelligence and Decision Theory.

Having worked on NASA’s Space Shuttle program at Rockwell in Downey, CA for over 10 years, Dr. Leal has in-depth experience in engineering and aerospace. He won NASA’s Technology Utilization Award for database verification.

He began his career working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. and at System Development Corporation in Santa Monica, CA, an off-shoot of the Rand Corp., which had the first time-sharing system. He served as President of Tetrax Corporation and taught at UCLA, USC, and at Santa Monica College.

He has over 30 publications.

DR. L.D. ZHANG

CHIEF SCIENTIST

Dr. Zhang is an expert in digital signal processing, radar/communications system design, and advanced algorithm development. He received his Ph.D. in Physics from U.C. San Diego in 1995. He has worked in Southern California at Raytheon, ATK Missile Systems, Technology Service Corp., Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and has consulted in radar and communications technologies. He has had 15 years of experience in system design, analysis and advanced algorithms development in RF and optical sensing, and communications receivers. Most recently he has led the development effort of Merlin Technologies’ indoor positioning technology.

MICHAEL BERMAN

CHIEF ENGINEER

Mr. Berman has been designing and developing embedded systems engineering applications for over 5 years. His Bachelor’s degree at Cal. State Northridge was in designing digital and analog systems. At Universal Studios, he designed and developed company-wide applications park processes to coordinate and smooth operations. At ADF Labs, he designed embedded Linux systems with high data security. At WV Communications in Newbury Park,CA., Mr. Berman designed and developed safety-critical embedded FPGA/microprocessor systems in Verilog and C. At Merlin Technologies, Inc, he is leading the transmitter development effort with emphasis on signal analysis and USRP interfaces.

DAVID HELD

PROJECT LEADER

Mr. Held has been working in the aerospace industry for almost 50 years. He was a Radar Systems Engineer at Hughes Aircraft where he designed and implemented advanced millimeter-wave receivers used for intelligence gathering. At Sattel Technologies he performed satellite systems engineering and customized telephone network software integration. For six years, Mr. Held consulted at Boeing on the Army’s Future Combat Systems (FCS) program where he managed the customization of network communication systems. At DRS Technologies, he wrote embedded FPGA software to interface between company products and the external control environment. During his time at Vantage Point Systems, he implemented an embedded processor that connects to local devices for command and control and generates web pages via local WiFi or wide-area GPRS for viewing and control of remote devices.

He is versant in PHP, C/C++, Perl, HTML5, Javascript, Linux, Web Sockets, Ajax, JSON, and TCP/IP.

Mr. Held received a B.S. degree in Physics from U.C.L.A.

DAVID CLEMENTS

HEAD SOFTWARE DESIGNER

Mr. Clements has been writing and designing software for over 15 years. He’s been party to, and lead, small teams in the development of a range of products in many fields from flight termination to forensics. He designs both backend FPGA and server software, as well as the frontend GUI and interaction / UX. His chosen field of study is Electrical / Computer Engineering at California State University, Northridge.

He is fluent in C, C++, and JAVA. He is well-versed in Verilog, VHDL, PHP, HTML5, Javascript, Python, BASH, and LUA. He has worked with the Qt, WxWidgets, and Boost frameworks. He has written cross platform GUI/OpenGL applications that ran on Windows, Linux, and OSX.
